you can not be down  just like your phone - it needs to just work!!!

Industry estimates indicate that Internet businesses can loose on average about $15,000 for every hour of downtime. This figure combines the cost of repairs with the cost of lost opportunities and sales. For an Internet-enabled business, downtime can mean devastating losses in revenue and credibility. For what ever reason, organizations have accepted these losses, regardless of expense, as an unavoidable cost of doing business on the Internet. Most web hosting provider don’t really care about uptime at all. They throw the 99.9% number but don’t do anything if they don’t meet that objective. Did you know that 99.9% means about 7 hours of downtime a month. Image having your website take a day off once a month. If they go beyond 8 hours does a hosting company offer you nothing in return?? Most do not!!

Even more scary are companies that keep their Internet operations in-house, primarily due to a lack of knowledge about available options. They believe they can manage that infrastructure better by doing it themselves. They do not consider power redundancy, Internet feed capacity, server loads, security, and the list goes on. The cost to operate your own web server and maintain it over 5 years can cost well over $25,000 a Year.

The Outsourcing Option:
By outsourcing responsibility for Internet infrastructure to the right service provider, a company gains access to state-of-the-art, highly redundant systems that ensure reliability and free up internal staff to focus their efforts on building and managing Web site content and applications. Today outsourcing your servers to companies can cost as little as a hundred and so dollars a month. Website hosting ranges from free to cheap to fair priced web hosting firms who charge about $25 per website per month but offer guarantees and focus on business needs. Try to always ask your new hosting provider for a copy of the service level agreement. Try to find one one that offer 100% uptime and will provide you a discount the moment that is not meant. If you can do this you will get a greater return on investment.

Ok, in this section don’t expect clean proper grammar as coming from my engineering background, English was not my strongest point. I will discuss the direction of rebel networks, rant about industry trends, talk about domain registrations, etc blah blah –

I might even talk about Football, Hockey, Soccer, golf - as  I am a bit of a sport junkie. You might learn about my cell phone, my thoughts of telecommunications company in Canada (THEY ARE ALL EVIL) and how and why we continue to add and acquire more space in data centers all around the globe - see how i jump around - LOL

I have been working on a blog for almost 2 years now, even now my first post was March 2008, now Sept 2008 I can say we really got this blog going now.

Nilesh, our new obtained SEO Expert has already assured me that we will have 200,000 subscribers to just Dom talk by end of the month

Dishan, Our Senior Tech Administor has told me he has extra servers on stand by to load balance since the blog will open the flood gate of traffic and put our servers and the entire Peer1 network to its knee’s. He will be using our monitoring tools to watch and shape traffic should it be required.

Randi, Mahesh, and Suhidha will make this mac theme of our blog look more like Rebel Networks in no time. although i suspect with all our projects that could be 2010 or even 2011.

Tom, also informed me that should we not have enought capacity in San Antonio - we can expand our Toronto Facility quickly at 151 Front Street. Tom is our 151 Toronto Technical Administrator and also does web design and programming, and also tech support- sort of the jack of many trades  - the utility guy

Frank, John, Mike - are all ready on live chat to help direct people to the dom talk section of the blog - in case (very rare) they cant find it. - Oh did you know that Frank, John, Mike handle our live chat and they do their shift work every 8 hours like clock work –

So, in all serious Rebel Networks is like a small family run business. I had a dream to start a web hosting company back in 1999, i didnt really start it until 2004. We are not a budget hosting company, and we not the expensive high end Managed Server company - We are in the middle. We offer rock solid web hosting, we secure our servers, we are a business focused hosting company.

In writing this post it dawned on me how much we have grown in the last 4 years.  When people told me i was crazy to invest my own personal money in starting this company. I knew that there was a place above the budget hosting companie and below the high end managed IT server companies. Since we have been having triple digit grow year over year  - we must be doing something right.

so this is the end of the first real post of Dom Talk - Hosting CEO - hope you enjoyed it!!

Many Business people have a very difficult time in finding a web hosting solution provider to help them establish an on line presence and benefit their business. The statics how that only 50% of businesses actually even have a web site. Most web hosting providers try to compete on price and that is because most are companies built by after thoughts of a great technical kid or some kind of internet marketing scammer.

When seeking to find a business grade hosting provider and not one for the family pictures there are some general things to look for and do?

* General professionalism on their website
* Help is available within 30 minutes 24/7
* Their Team Size? Remember, bigger might not be better.
* Also, you must remember that cheaper is not necessarily better either, as there is a lot of scamming going on hosting business and competition is very fierce.

Someone offering unlimited bandwidth, a huge hard drive quota or something similar which has a clear cost for the provider, is more likely offering you an unstable, or even a scam service. Look for those who tell you that they allocate resources, so that they never oversell even if their all customers would be using everything offered to them. These kind of providers are more likely to be very high quality, thus usually the price is a little bit higher, but you can expect more from them in terms of support, stability & performance. And not to mention REAL value-for-money.

The 3 most important factors you must look for in a hosting service, if your website is to succeed, are: Stability, Support response time & how they respond, and the performance of the service.

Performance is tertiary. Why, you ask? Because stability is the most important factor. You don’t want to be loosing business because your site is not available most of the time, do you? Support comes second because crashes do happen, problems DO occur, and response time of support team is VERY important here.

And, you may value such things as one-man companies, because you know that they are very likely to be able to provide 24/7 help and support, and will also offer a higher quality service, because they can put more time into their customers. They value all their customers because they know who is paying, and who deserves what they are paying for, instead of some half-baked scam service that is wasting both the customers time and money.

Think about how good it would be if he or she support technician even gave you their personal phone number for you to contact them if problems occur, and never charge a dime for using it! Talk about service! This will both reduce your down-time, and any business losses incurred because of this. In fact, Rebel Networks provides 24/7 LIVE support for all its customers, and will surely be in the running this year to win awards for Best-Service or the like!!
